Yeah, and here's another coincidence.  I just bumped into Sumner this evening at the Tarrytown Y.  My family was leaving, he was coming in, I told him about the reunion.  He said he had been "sick as a dog all weekend" and wouldn't have been able to come anyway.

Keep sending reunion pictures and I'll keep posting them on the site.

Glenn Martin suggested we put up a Reunion Comment Card page. Might be fun to test out. Please visit www.art-cetera.com/hastings, answer the questions, hit the submit button, and your responses will be whisked off to everyone on the email list. Please read the usage rules on the top of the page first.

Believe it or not, THIS is Homecoming weekend in Hastings, not last weekend. If anyone is local and still has school spirit after the three day hostage crisis, they should show up at the Homecoming Game.

According to the website, the Homecoming game was postponed (the field must be a bit wet) and rescheduled for Sunday October 16th at 1:30 PM at Reynolds. They will be playing Eastchester.

GENERAL COMMENTS:: A tremendous THANK YOU to Alan and his wife Terry for bringing us all together once again, I had a wonderful time. The Art-Cetera HHS website has provided a chance for all of us to reconnect and continue friendships that might of been lost over the years. It also has provided a place to reminisce about school, friends, and places of our past.
Thank you also to Alan, Billy, Glenn, and Ray, for all your time and effort in keeping all of us out of towners informed, giving us great places to get together, (how did I not know where the American Legion was?)& food to eat.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE REUNION EXPERIENCES.: The conversations I had with people!!

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST?: -Remembering so many people - some of you look just like your HS photo!! Not fair!!!
-Speaking with old friends and wishing we had stayed in touch over the years.
-It was sad to leave Hastings again now that I live so far away.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE LEAST?: That Alan would pull this all together and make it a great time!!

WHAT THREE NEW THINGS DID YOU LEARN ABOUT YOUR CLASSMATES OR TEACHERS?: I should of spent more time getting to know my classmates in HS.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE EVENTS AND WHY?: All of the ones I attended - just being together. I missed the grand finale at the 'Chart House' with the Clintons, just imagine if Tucker and Rittner were there.....History and politics at it's best!!!

WHAT DO YOU THINK COULD BE IMPROVED AND HOW WOULD YOU DO IT?: Maybe making one central location , like the American Legion, a home base/open house for the whole weekend in addition to each planned event.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE NEXT REUNION OR 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY.: Make it during the summer! Less chance for bad weather. (And, if it's my 50th birthday wish, maybe another location-hummmmmmm....one of the islands sounds good to me!!)
But whatever the plan, count me in! Let me know what I can do to help.

GENERAL COMMENTS:: 30th Reunion, or, I Didn't Know What I Didn't Know About All Of You!

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE REUNION EXPERIENCES.: Before the deluge (of people and rain), I got a chance to walk through the High School on Friday just after school ended for the day. Was it always that small? Were the hallways always so narrow? How did we walk in there without banging into each other all the time? Seeing friends who have not been back to previous reunions may have been the most memorable part of the weekend for me. Maybe there isn't a cause-and-effect, maybe it's just a correlation between who shows up at the reunion and the type of people who were there, but you are all really fun and interesting to hang out with. And, of course, the Clintons crashing our party!

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST?: The vast uncharted tract of land behind Hillside Elementary.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE LEAST?: 1. We can't drink like we used to. 2. How many of us turned teacher. 3. Torrential rain in Hastings (remember our graduation?)

WHAT THREE NEW THINGS DID YOU LEARN ABOUT YOUR CLASSMATES OR TEACHERS?: 1. They spent a lot more time in the woods than I'd have guessed, without a single one of them becoming a botanist or biologist. 2. Mr. Tucker is funny and smart when he's NOT in the classroom. 3. Teachers spend time outside their classrooms!

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE EVENTS AND WHY?: There wasn't a bad one. Even the double-broiler session in the American Legion Hall was delightful because of the friendships found and renewed.

WHAT DO YOU THINK COULD BE IMPROVED AND HOW WOULD YOU DO IT?: Next time, I'll bring an umbrella. Beyond that, it was great.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE NEXT REUNION OR 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY.: A HUGE 50th birthday cake. Chocolate, of course.

So if you haven't visited the site yet, if for no other reason, go there to clear your good reputation. (I'm considering pulling one of me telling a story very late Saturday in the "Clubhouse" with the boys. Wow.)

GENERAL COMMENTS:: Well, after reading the monalog from my sister, I could just say Ditto :-). But it was worth the trip and I will be coming for the 50th B'Day Celebration.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE REUNION EXPERIENCES.: Seeing all my old stomping grounds, the town hasn't changed much. Karen and I went to the Hastings Diner for breakfast Saturday morning, now there is a place that is just the same. (Is it just me, or are the bathroom ceiling lower then they use to be? I felt like Alice in Wonderland, the room kept getting shorter)

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST?: Chip Carpenter - I had NO IDEA who he was. The last time I think I saw him was graduation.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE LEAST?: Feeling at home, it was wonderful talking and joking with everyone again. We have a great bunch of classmates.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE EVENTS AND WHY?: Althought I only attended two of the events, they were great, good food, good drinks, good friends.
Hopefully next time I will have more time to attend everything.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE NEXT REUNION OR 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY.: Alan, Ray, Glenn, Billy - You did a great job and I know you do something great for the 50th Birthday Party.

By the way - I with Gregg - Chocolate for the cake - Please :-)

Subject: Hastings Historical Society Needs Our Help

Dear Everyone,

The Hastings Historical Society wants permission to archive our reunion and website pictures. Would that be okay Glenn Martin, Greg Vaughn, Allison Marston, Steve Jones, Lori Heady Hearon, Amy Farber and Ray Paletta? If so, please send high resolution copies (300 DPI preferably; the one's I put on the web are only 75 to 150 DPI) to Fatima, the wonderful person at the Historical Socieity who helped put together our Monday morning event with Mrs. Drewes at the Society's headquarters. Please write her at hhscottage@hastingshistorical.org if it's okay.

They also want volunteers to help identify people in our pictures for posterity. I don't have the time, but they are hoping someone will. Again, if you can help by phone, email or in person, please write hhscottage@hastingshistorical.org.

As you'll see from the email below, the Society has a great lack of pictures from our time in Hastings, the 60s and 70s. If you could, please dig around and let Fatima know if you have any old gems lying around.

ALSO, NOW THAT SOME TIME HAS PASSED, please fill out the reunion survey on our website at www.art-cetera.com/hastings. If we get a few more, I'll post them all on the web together.

Thanks all,

Alan

Alan,

I am so bummed that I missed the 30th reunion, but I was down in New Orleans checking on my family and their houses while volunteering as a Paramedic with the city....I started my career there in 1979. All family, actual and EMS survived, many severely emotionally scared. 2 of 10 houses totally gone, 3 damaged by flooding to the point of being uninhabitable, moderate damage to one other. 85% of the EMS system's personnel are homeless, they are now living on a leased cruise ship. It's just hard to fathom....like when you see the south rim of the Grand canyon for the first time!

Sorry about all this negative energy, I was only writing to update my email address....sorry about the dead link: parnemtp@mint.net and doczy-bordi@prodigy.net

My email is: doczy-bordi@msn.com

If you could also change my home telephone number and address to 207.734.8810, and 1026 Meadow Pond Rd., Islesboro, Maine 04848. I still own the other address but will probably rent it out now that we are living on the island fulltime.

Subject: A mystery to be solved...

Dear Classmates,

I would love to share a wonderful mystery with you all.

An anonymous envelope arrived addressed to Teri and me. A handwriting analysis could not be performed, because there was none to be found. Everything was typed. The postmark was from Oakland, CA. Inside was a colorful and artistic card. We’re still awaiting a fingerprint report, and DNA testing on the envelope’s glue where traces of saliva were found. A type written note was stuck to the card, with the following printed on it:

"Dear Alan and Terri,

All of us who came to the 30th Reunion had
a wonderful time, and it’s all because of you both.
Thank you Alan, for putting together the events
and keeping us all connected all these years.

Thank you Terri for hosting our high school
class website and for putting up with Alan
being crazy before, during and probably after
the reunion

All who came wished to thank you both
in some small way. All of us have donated
to a thank you gift.

It comes in two parts. A gift certificate
for Harvest-on-Hudson will arrive by mail.
We also have collected money for the two
of you to attend the Broadway show of your
choice. All you need to do is tell us, via
the website, the show and some dates and
we’ll have two tickets promptly sent to you.

Please do let us know you got this through
the website (as everyone is waiting) and
do let us know your show choice (as the
person who collected doesn’t want to hold
on to everyone’s funds any longer!).

With many, many, many thanks,

Hastings High Class of 1975
30th Reunion Attendees"

The cliche that you "shouldn't have" and "didn't have to do this" applies here.

Then I thought about how many lives mine has touched, and how much it would mean to me to suddenly find out -- as Harry Bailey did at the end of "It’s a Wonderful Life" -- that I had somehow made a difference in the world. But honestly, all Teri did was allow us some space on her website, and all I did was throw a site up for us and maintained it. It’s not like we cured a major disease or saved anyone’s life...

Still, this is pretty good and we’ll take what we can get, including a dinner and a show.

Hopefully at our next reunion someone will choke on a roll and I’ll be right there.

Small sports cars are real nice.

A little embarrassed, but very flattered and sincerely thankful,

Alan

PS. Teri and I would like to see "Wicked" on our 20th Anniversary, the evening of December 14th. If that date is unavailable, we would like to go to any Wednesday or Thursday night performance (except Thanksgiving).

Thank you all again.

From: dmcquickly@comcast.net (Greg Vaughn)
Subject: Re: A mystery to be solved...

Alan and Teri:

This will necessarily be short, given the late hour (I'm still wired from parent-teacher conferences).

I just wanted to address a statement you made, Alan, and something Steve Bordi said in his regrets email. They should be put together, because it shows the scope of what your admittedly small contribution was (sarcasm there) to our reunion:

Steve said, after detailing his horrific experience down in New Orleans, that he apologized for all the negative energy. (Steve, I'm so sorry for the hard time you had, and am at least glad you are able to email us with an update on your whereabouts--my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family and friends.)

And it occurred to me, Alan and Teri: I like everyone who was at the 30th reunion. You're all really cool people. Regardless of how much time we did or didn't spend together in high school, Steve's "negative energy" comment made me realize why I enjoyed your company so much. We still believe in the reality of negative energy. We still believe that's something that should be apologized for (even if the rest of us don't feel apologies are necessary). We still believe that manners and regrets for our absences are important things to share. We still believe in the power of positive energy, and the strength of that power when it's shared. And Alan and Teri, regardless of how much you did or didn't do, you provided the energy to the rest of us to make a 30th reunion happen. It was there where I realized how cool we all still are, how fun and lively we are, and how lucky we are to have each other, far-flung though we may be.

Maybe what we are luckiest for is that we grew up in an age without the internet, were just young enough to adopt it, and are now wise enough to realize the power it has to keep us a family of friends.

That, and how great it is to get really awesome pictures!

Thanks again, Alan and Teri, for the small amount you did in your reality, and the huge amount you did in our realities. Enjoy the dinner and have a wicked time at the show!

Greg

Like any of us didn't know Louise Francis would be at the bottom of something like this . . .

I see no evidence that Louise Francis is at all involved in this. A contributor, maybe, but instigator? I think not. We all know Louise. Now, if someone were to say that Mr. Rittner was behind all this, as a way of a virtual repeat of that experiment he did in his class where we were made to believe that Louise and Hiede beat themselves up, well, now, that's a different story...

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE REUNION EXPERIENCES.: Watching the Ethical Stickball game -- who knew that was going on every Sunday? Laughing a ton, particularly at Sat. night dinner, and having Dave Riggs play "gotcha" with those of us on the Hillside walk who truly had no idea where we were.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST?: How wild Hillside has become and how close Children's Village is.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE LEAST?: How much Alan enjoys everyone.

WHAT THREE NEW THINGS DID YOU LEARN ABOUT YOUR CLASSMATES OR TEACHERS?: Not sure I got this right -- I killed too many brain cells that weekend -- but I think I recall that Keller (Bev Fox) scuba dives a lot and has gone diving in places I dream about, Jan's heart almost took her away from us (I'm thankful it didn't), and Josefa has a cool son who sounds like he's a creative soul who will make a beautiful mark on the world.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE EVENTS AND WHY?: I loved it all, but particularly the Hillside park walk -- us Californians don't get to walk in lush, wild woods in the drizzle -- it's either dry hills or muddy trails in the pouring rain. Maude's brunch was fun too -- I actually got to hear what I was expected to be listening to.

WHAT DO YOU THINK COULD BE IMPROVED AND HOW WOULD YOU DO IT?: Not enough celebrity participation with only Bill, Hilary & Chelsea. Get Keith Olberman (who our SF Chronicle TV critic calls a Visionary) to come to the next one to do an MSNBC Countdown segment on how these geeky, nerdy & jocky kids he went to elementary school with have fun getting together in their middle age. Or maybe not --he'd lampoon us mightily -- might discourage us from having a 40th.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE NEXT REUNION OR 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY.: Clone Alan.

Alas, the truth must be told - all mysteries are revealed eventually. I have been instructed by Madam LF to convey to Alan and Teri that the tickets for the 8 p.m. show on December 14, 2005 have been ordered and are on the way.  You should get them by Monday.

Alan (and Teri): We all appreciate your efforts and hopefully these little gestures can convey some of the warmth and gratitude we all feel for the opportunity to maintain and rekindle the friendships made possible by what you have done.

THANK YOU FROM THE ENTIRE CLASS OF '75 (plus or minus a few years).
