FIRST THE BUSINESS MESSAGE: Did you know that all the messages sent to the group are archived at

http://www.art-cetera.com/hastings/messages/board.html

Comcast had problems, so the seven Comcast subscribers in our class did not receive any of the important (?) emails about the reunion for the last week or so. Please know that you can catch up on what was said at the above address.

NOW THE PERSONAL MESSAGE: I too am happy to hear Mark is well, but more than that, I am proud to know how much he is doing to help in New Orleans, and appreciate that a member of our class is making a difference.

Mark, are you still coming to the reunion though?

: )

Seriously, it is hard to celebrate when people are dying right in our own country. Please continue to give to the relief fund of your choice, and Mark, please continue to write how things are going for you, your family, and the people under your care.

-------------------- 10 --------------------
Dear Friends,

This just came in from Billy Kotiadis. It is an alternate suggestion for our Saturday night event.

Currently our plan is to meet at the elegant Harvest-on-Hudson restaurant down by the river tennis courts for drinks. Some people might also order dinner there. Others might just come to chat and order nothing. It was chosen because it is nice looking, it's free if you buy nothing, the drinks cost about the same or maybe a little more than at Maud's, and planning a party there required no preparation on our part.

But Billy has volunteered to put something together, the details of which are below. If the group prefers this idea, I suggest we speak up and send money immediately, because Billy will need to mobilize.

My vote is "I will do whatever the group decides." My concern is that the vote won't be unanimous, the group won't decide, and we will be split. I hope that doesn't happen, because I prefer us being all together. What's the point of having a reunion with people coming from great distances to be split between two venues? So I ask that we debate this quickly and we as a group make a decision quickly so Billy can get to work if we decide to do what he suggests. (I say "we as a group make a decision quickly" because I do not want the responsibility of interpreting our group responses into a decision.)

Billy asks for RSVPs at the bottom of his note. Also, I have added his proposed event to our online RSVP submission form. I suggest we discuss this in open forum, then vote either online at "www.art-cetera.com/hastings" or by emailing Billy. If you can do both, that would be great.

As you will see, Billy says he needs 50 people to bring the per/person cost down to $15, so those of you who have said you are coming, but have not yet RSVPed, please weigh-in on this discussion.

That said, I thank Billy for stepping up to the plate and offering to contribute.

Take it away Billy!!!

Coming from out of town, I have to say that anytime I can get together in a big room with 50+ of my friends and acquaintances and eat for just $15, I'm in! Thanks Billy for this offer.

Our 20th reunion, inside that big room with all of us able to move around and sit wherever we wanted whenever we wanted, that was enjoyable. I liked the lack of formality because it did enable us to move around.

If the group does decide to stay at Harvest, I'll go too. Billy's A.L. Hall idea gives everyone the chance to eat dinner, simple though it may be, for quite a reasonable price. Fancy dinners we can get anytime.

Hello all,

Well, the plan was to go to harvest on Saturday, then old Manzis on Sun
night, why dont we do the legion hall on Saturday night then Harvest on Sunday
night, for everyone that feels like an elegant dinner. Or, keep it
Manzis on Sunday night and legion sat night .
Either way we could do both , its just a matter of canning one of the
restaurants , my vote, Alan as you know, for some reason my vote wont go thru, is
Mauds Fri---legion on sat with drinx and and food -- then Harvest on Sunday
night

Louise speaks sense (see below). But for me to consent to start at Harvest and then move to the American Legion, I need to know the cost is truly $15 and not $83.33 as it stands now with only 9 people dividing the expenses.

To see all the latest news, changes in events, and how many people RSVPed for what, please visit the website at www.art-cetera.com/hastings. I haven't had time to do more than count votes, but it should help give an idea of what's happening.

One thing that's happening is people have said they are coming, but they don't know to which events, so they don't send an RSVP, which means our numbers seem lower than they really are.

Those who have not, please RSVP so we have a better understanding of the trends here.

Thanks,

Alan

Subject: Saturday Night Event

Fellow Classmates,

I have been asked by those with whom I've been communicating regarding the proposed options for Saturday night (I won't mention any names but they start with Billy and Alan), to share some concerns....as diplomatically as I can.

Initially, I thought an evening at the American Legion was a great idea (you can never go wrong with a keg), a more private setting at a minimal cost providing everyone attends. I jumped on board and offered to help set things up. However, there are those who would prefer to keep to the original plan at the Harvest and I think we ought to honor that. Having all events and activities at public venues/restaurants and not committing to events or dealing with all the up-front costs and logistics was a great idea....and still is.

Although it was never the intention of splitting the Saturday night festivities between two venues, in all likelihood, that is how it may turn out which defeats the purpose of a "reunion". I think one of the greatest thrills of past reunions, as expressed by so many, was socializing with classmates we never communicated with in High School. There was a sense that barriers no longer existed. Therefore, one gathering, one event appears to be the best way to go.

All things said and after much consultation with some of our key organizers/contributors, it is recommended that we keep to the original plan. Billy....thank you for your efforts and stepping up to the plate to contribute. We'll pull this idea off next time. Alan, as usual, thank you for facilitating the communication and reunion plans.

I would however, like to submit an additional activity for the weekend. When the Harvest-on-Hudson closes, everyone is invited to Ray Palletta's house for an all night slumber party!... Just kidding Ray.

I hope this communication clears any confusion. See you soon.

Glenn

PS. I believe Sue and Lori (Heady) live in the path of Rita... let's keep them in our thoughts and hope they remain safe.

Yet, while I can't speak for him or his lovely wife SaraLynn, my guess is that Jamie won't mind (he's waaayyyy too busy getting out his daily/weekly publications to even notice, and from what he tells me, it doesn't sound like he does much slumbering anyway).

HI there,

It has been so much fun reading all the emails flying back and forth for all
our classmates.

First, thank you Glenn for your note about Lori and I, we are fine in
Austin, I presently am working for a non-profit orginization called OneStar
Foundation, we are a part of the Texas Responds put in place for Katrina.
We are now stepping up to the plate again with Rita knocking on our door in
Texas, so although the latest is it is moving northeast and Houston looks to
in better shape, we here in the Austin city limits are hosting several
thousand people for the weekend (talk about a sleepover) the high school
where my girls go is closed today and are hosting 350 people for the
weekend. So when I am not here working, I plan on going over to the school
to help out.

I am so looking forward to see everyone again, I will be there Friday night,
Saturday I have plans during the day to get with my two children who still
live in the area. Sunday I will follow the reunion group where ever the
plans take us.

Take care and see you soon.

Dear Friends,

I took some time and reworked the reunion portion of our website.

www.art-cetera.com/hastings

There have been changes in the itinerary, so please take note. Also, lists of those who have RSVPed for each event have been added. (Those who are attending, but have not yet RSVPed, please do ASAP, especially if you wish a reservation be made for dinner Saturday or Sunday nights.)

There is an extensive map page now too. On it you will find a map of all reunion activities, along with close-up satellite photos of every area in Hastings where events will occur.

Now get plenty of rest. Once you get here, you'll need it.

See you soon.

Alan

PS. Before I sign off, I just want to publicly thank my wife, Teri, who's site "Art-cetera" has been our host, allowing us to squat here for free for over 10 years.
(Teri's last painting series may be seen at the root address of www.art-cetera.com - without the "/hastings" part. Soon she will post almost 30 pieces of abstract art for a new show.)
