John, get better quickly...

Top FOUR reasons for John to get better:

1. Blue fish (preferably with a mustard sauce)
2. Stripped Bass (thanks Jim!)
3. Blue fin tuna (OK, so, maybe Cap hasn't caught one the fastest most
expensive fish around...but hey! ... he's gotta get better to catch
'em)
4. Ahh...the humble cod...

Subject: Chuck Fleming

I don’t even know how to write this, so please forgive my clumsiness.

Our good friend and classmate Chuck Fleming passed away last night. He had a sudden heart attack while jogging at Ardsley's track (while his son C.J. was at the prom, with graduation tomorrow, and Father’s Day coming Sunday).

According to Pam’s father, Chuck’s dad died of a heart attack at age 50. (By other accounts, his father might have been older when he died.) Still, knowing this, Chuck tried to eat well and stay in shape. Again, according to Pam's father, Chuck's stress test was good a few months ago and his cholesterol was low.

I offered Pam to be a central clearing house of information, as she is not really able to communicate.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to:

The Fleming Children Education Fund
81 Ogden Place
Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522

There will be visiting hours
Sunday and Monday, June 20 and 21
2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the
Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home Inc
64 Ashford Avenue
Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522

Service will be Tuesday, June 22 at 9:30 AM
Sacred Heart Church
417 Broadway (and Ashford Ave)
Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522

There is so much more I would like to say, but I would rather not here. Again, I apologize for my clumsiness.

With much sadness,

Alan

This is devastating news. I just saw Chuck a few weeks ago running with his
son at Gould Field (I was there watching my son's baseball game). Kept meaning
to stay in closer contact with him, but never really managed to do so, even
though we live just down the road in Irvington. Our hearts go out to Pam and her
family. Chuck had become a major part of the Dobbs Ferry community. And my
wife and I got a chance to talk to him and Pam at the last reunion. It's hard to
believe he's gone.

What a shock. It is nearly impossible to comprehend the difficulty Pam and
her family is going through right now. I extend my heart and prayers to
them....and a simple poem to Pam. I hope it finds it's way to her.

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Just to put it out there, Bill Kotiadis and I plan to meet sometime around
8pm tonight at Hastings House. We'll probably head to Maud's afterward.

I don't know about anyone else, but the heartbreaking news about Chuck has
me torn between feeling reclusive on the one hand, and wanting to take
comfort in the company of Hastings friends on the other. If anyone else is
going to be around in Hastings tonight, we hope to see you.

It's these times I wish I were closer...But please express my sincerest
condolences to Pam and the family. Chuck was a leader among us and our class and
Hastings High (to say nothing of the world at large) was a far better place for
his character, humor, and leadership. Every class in every school in the
world has its radiance. Chuck was a big part of ours.
