Mr. Ivor Margerison

I had Mr. Margerison for a math class or two (which I loved). More
importantly, he also decided to teach me a computer programming language
(BASIC) on the administrative computer (a teletype with an acoustic modem;
probably connected to a DEC PDP-11 timesharing system) after school. This
was it for me ! I may have spent more hours at this than in classes. I
probably still have all the paper tape that the programs where punched out
on. This was a resource that I really wasn't supposed to have access to and
there were no manuals to learn from, so it was both a political risk and
pretty time consuming for him (I obviously had a lot of questions). This
essentially launched me on a career track I've been very happy with for
decades. I remember him with great fondness and gratitude.
